On May 25, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev got familiarized with the re-construction of the monument of famous Persian poet Nezami Ganjavi in the centre of Ganja city, AzerTaj state news agency reported.
Pedestal of the bronze monument was constructed from Dashkesan marble on April 30, 1949. Currently, marble cover was updated, the area around the monument was improved. A modern lighting system as well as benches were established.
Re-construction work began this month and is expected to be completed by June 15 — National Salvation Day.
The Nezami Mausoleum, built in honour of Nezāmī Ganjavī, stands just outside the city of Ganja, Republic of Azerbaijan. It is a tall cylindrical building, surrounded by gardens. To one side, there is a metal statue commemorating Nezami’s epic poems. The mausoleum was originally built in 1947 in place of an old collapsed mausoleum, and rebuilt in its present form in 1991.
