CALL FOR PAPERS: The anniversary of the Battle of Qadisiyyah

Wednesday 3 November 2010

LONDON — CAIS wishes to invite articles for submission to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Qadisiyyah (16-19 November 636 CE), fall of Ctesiphon (12 March, 637 CE) and subsequent Islamisation of Iran.

CAIS welcomes articles in both English and Persian languages.

The Battle of Qadisiyyah (قادسیه, in Middle-Persian Gad-Siyā meaning “black-mace”) is perhaps one of the most important events in the history of the Middle-East, if not in the world that has shaped and changed history. The effects and subsequences of that battle which took place nearly 1400 years ago can still be witnessed, including the existence of the Islamic Republic in Tehran. Certainly the Middle-East and to a certain extent the whole world may have been far different as we know it today if it were not for the battle of Qadisiyyah.
