Truth lies in the village

A documentary excerpt from Abyaneh

Sunday 25 March 2007

Villager dame — They don’t have culture and we don’t want theme here. Those people are unappreciative and destructor. They are uneducated but we are the minority.
The reporter — It’s similar to Zoroastrian women attire, why?
— Because we both kept this old tradition alive, our dialect and customs are the same.
— As a reporter, I’ve travelled to many places and I see you all wear such happy and live colours.
— Do you know why? When you see us in colourful clothing, it brings a sense of happiness and positively which brings us the same feeling.
— You never wear black dresses?
— No, we don’t own any black clothing at all and we don’t wear black even at funerals.

— When I was going to school, Reza Shah came to power and he ordered to take off the veils. The funny thing is: I’m the old one and am considered the uneducated villager!
— If our society had more people like you, we would have been better off now.
