Sunday 27 July 2003, by Raham ASHA

Al-Madkhal ilâ Elm-i Axkâm-i Nojûm is a treatise in Arabic on Astrology written by a Persian astronomer, Abû-nasr Hasan ibn Ali Qomî (died after 373 A.H.).

Little is known of the author’s life and works.

The Al-Madkhal has been translated into Persian by an unknown and almost contemporary scholar. The book is of unique linguistic value as an old Persian (Fârsi) text containing some words of Persic (Pahlavi) language, and comprises of some astronomical tables and a calendar based on Yazdegird era from 345 approximating modern computations, which add special interest to the book for the historians of science.
